OUTCOME
AstraZeneca needed to swap out a fleet of aging laptops for iPads. MobileCorp project managed the bulk deployment to 1,000 field force employees ensuring the devices were configured for an ‘out of box’ end user experience.
AstraZeneca is a global science-led biopharmaceutical company. It researches, develops, manufactures and supplies medicines in three main areas; Oncology; Respiratory, Inflammation and Autoimmunity (RIA); Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases (CVMD), to deliver life-changing remedies to their customers.
Sites: 10
End Users: 1,000
Challenge
AstraZeneca had 1,000 aging company-owned laptops supplied to staff in the field, which needed to be swapped out for iPads. AstraZeneca decided to minimise the impact on internal IT resources by outsourcing the project to MobileCorp.
The requirement was to deliver new hardware to each end user already enrolled, secure and ready to use straight out of the box without the need for end user intervention.
Solution
MobileCorp delivered its ‘Device as a Service’ solution managing the project from procurement through device configuration to delivery to end users.
MobileCorp’s managed mobility team procured the devices, inserted SIMs and connected carrier services. They updated the iPads to the latest iOS, fitted protective accessories, and ensured each device was fully charged.
MobileCorp mobile security specialists then enrolled the devices in Apple DEP and worked closely with AstraZeneca to ensure that the existing VMWare AirWatch profile had been pushed to and tested on each device before deployment.
The iPads were delivered to employees in bulk batches to coincide with State conferences being held across the country.
Outcome
- Release internal IT team: The AstraZeneca internal IT team saved significant man-hours and were able to concentrate on core business by outsourcing the iPad upgrade project to MobileCorp.
- AirWatch profiles for device security: After enrolling each device in Apple DEP, MobileCorp ensured the corporate AirWatch profile had been pushed to the device allowing remote management of device security and software updates.
- End user zero-touch experience: AstraZeneca’s end users were moving from a laptop to an iPad and it was important for adoption and productivity to provide a zero-touch “out-of-the-box” experience.
- Device investment protection: Compulsory prior installation of a case and screen protector to a corporate iPad resulted in a measurable extension of the service life of the device and a significant reduction in repairs.
