Apple has teased its event at 4am on October 14, AEDT, with an invitation declaring Hi, Speed. The reference is widely believed to allude to the speed of 5G and the arrival of the first 5G-enabled iPhone.
The event will unveil the next iteration of the iPhone, expected to be labelled the iPhone 12.
The launch has been delayed from its usual timeslot in the first week of September due to supply chain issues caused by the Covid-19 disruption.
This event will mark the second Apple event within the last month. On September 15, Apple held a virtual event to announce its latest Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 6 hardware, alongside a new iPad Air and the 8th generation iPad, Apple Fitness+, and the Apple One services bundle.
Four new iPhone 12 models expected
Apple is expected to unveil four new iPhone 12 models this year: a 5.4-inch iPhone 12, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Faster Face ID, longer lasting battery and camera upgrade
Rumours anticipate a faster Face ID due to a new 'dynamic zoning algorithm,' a slightly smaller 'notch', and a battery life extension of 'at least an hour', and an improved camera technology.
Then, of course, there is 5G enablement.
Watch the live stream on Youtube
Apple has also published a YouTube placeholder stream for the event.
Apple has been live streaming its recent events on YouTube as well as on its Apple Events website. The YouTube live streams have been some seconds ahead of the website stream for past events, making it a preferable choice.
Next week’s event live stream on YouTube features this description:
Join us for a special Apple Event on October 13 at 10am PDT. Set a reminder and we'll send an update before the show.
