The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6S were the two most popular iPhones by market share globally in 2019.
Less than a year ago, in Q2 2019, Device Atlas collected data from 37 countries to compile the numbers below.
Fast forward a year and those stats will obviously look different with the passing of time and the entrance of the iPhone 11, but still, it's reasonable to assume there are plenty of iPhone 6S still in use.
The Australian numbers were not totally aligned with the global aggregate. There are fewer iPhone 6S in use in Australia than in other nations, however the numerical difference between the various models is not extreme.
The most popular iPhone in Australia was the 7 with 6.98% market share, while the 6S was seventh with 4.31% market share.
Interestingly there was slightly more of the iPhone 6 in use, but that iPhone was unsupported by iOS13.
Apple typically supports its iPhones for five years after being discontinued. The 6S was succeeded by the iPhone 7 and 7S in September 2016 but not discontinued from sale until September 2018 with the launch of the iPhone X range.
This seems to have saved it from missing out on iOS14. That, and the fact that there are so many of the device in circulation. It is a smart move by Apple. It would be shortsighted to estrange so many consumers who are undoubtedly on the cusp of an upgrade.
